Belly Casting!
Kim and Crysta had SO much fun today doing our very first belly cast! Belly casts are a super fun way to remember your pregnancy and how your body grew and changed in the weeks before baby's arrival.
Brittnee was such a great guinea pig, and it went great! We loved how it turned out.
Her beautiful little girl even got in on the act, helping make sure it was just right!
Belly casts are a great addition to any nursery wall, and also make a fantastic baby shower gift. If you want to learn more or have your own done, contact one of our doulas!
Creating your belly cast is a fun event, and you are welcome to invite friends to participate! We are also happy to come to your baby shower and assist your friends and family with creating the cast.
The possibilities are endless, and the finished result is really special. You can also paint or decopauge the cast for a really beautiful keepsake.

Baby Signs, 10 am-12 pm
Join us to learn basic skills for teaching your little one sign language. Babies and toddlers are welcome, feel free to come no matter what stage you are at!

Childbirth Education "Express Class", 1-5 pm both days
This is a full childbirth education class similar to a Lamaze class (the program we teach is called ICEA -- International Childbirth Education Association). It is a more naturally-focused version of the classes you find at the hospital, but we do touch on hospital procedures, drug options, etc.

First Trimester Class, 6-9 pm
Pregnancy Nutrition, Exercise, Options, Etc. will be covered -- you don't have to be in the first trimester, but it is a great class to take when you are just figuring out this whole pregnancy thing and full of questions!
Sunday, March 25
Comfort Measures Class, 6-9 pm
This is a very abbreviated childbirth education class meant to help couples familiar with all the ways to make mom comfortable in labor. It can be taken over and over throughout your pregnancy, or just once later in pregnancy as a little "refresher" or "crash course"!

“You’re a … what now?”
The massage therapist smiled sweetly.
“A birth doula. Basically we provide informational, emotional, and physical support to pregnant moms.”
She nodded.
Later when she walked me to the door after my massage and saw the magnet advertising my business on the side of my car, she asked again.
“So, you’re a … what was it again?”
I get this all the time. At a birth last spring, the father thought my business partner’s name was Doula. I am fairly certain my daughter’s fifth grade teacher thinks I am a midwife. And more than once I have been asked how my “doona thing” is going.

What is a doula?
What is a DOULA?
The Greek word doula means woman caregiver. We now use the word to describe a trained and experienced labor companion who provides the woman and her husband or partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort, and assistance in obtaining information before, during, and just after childbirth.
A postpartum doula provides care to a family with a newborn baby.
A birth doula…
…recognizes birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life…
…understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor…
…assists the woman and her partner in preparing for and carrying out their plans for the birth…
…stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the entire labor…
…provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint, and assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make good decisions…
…facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner, and clinical care providers…
…perceives her role as one who nurtures and protects the woman’s memory of her birth experience.
The acceptance of doulas in maternity care is growing rapidly with the recognition of their important contribution to the improved physical outcomes and emotional well-being of mothers and infants.
